Video: Canary hits the airwaves to chat about hydrogen fuel-cell buses

Canary Media hit the airwaves again to discuss a novel zero-emissions transportation project that’s coming to the Washington, D.C. area.

On Wednesday, I joined The Weather Channel’s climate-focused weekday show Pattrn to discuss my recent article on a first-of-its-kind bus depot in Montgomery County, Maryland.

In an interview with meteorologists Stephanie Abrams and Jordan Steele, I described the county’s plans to make its own green fuel on-site using solar panels and batteries to run an electrolyzer — which in turn splits water into oxygen and hydrogen. The hydrogen will fill the tanks of 13 new fuel-cell buses.

Montgomery County has already made a name for itself by deploying more battery-powered school buses than any other transit operator across the country. Now it’s pursuing hydrogen fuel to clean up long-distance buses and heavy-duty equipment.
