Clean energy journalism for a cooler tomorrow

Editorial and ethics policies

Corrections

Canary Media strives to promptly correct all factual errors in our work. If you believe you have identified an error, please email us at [email protected]. When we fix an error, we post a correction note that explains the change.

Editorial independence

Canary Media’s editors have full control over our journalistic content. We maintain a strict firewall between news coverage decisions and all sources of revenue. Donors, sponsors, and advertisers have no say over whether or how we report on specific stories. Board members and non-editorial staff also have no control over our editorial decisions.

Canary Media may accept donations to support coverage of particular geographic regions or broad topics that fall within our coverage areas, but the donors have no influence over how those topics are reported on and no right to review articles before they are published.

Canary Media staff and contributors are required to disclose any conflicts of interest, financial or otherwise, that might compromise the integrity of our journalism.

Conflicts of interest

Canary Media staff and contributors are required to disclose any conflicts of interest, financial or otherwise, that might compromise the integrity of our journalism.

Transparency

Canary Media publicly posts the names of foundations, corporations, and individuals who have donated $5,000 or more within the last year. Anonymity for funders who offer general operating support may be granted under some circumstances.

Inclusion

Canary Media believes that diverse perspectives are essential to addressing the complex challenges of climate change and advancing clean energy solutions. We are committed to fostering an inclusive environment that values and amplifies voices from all backgrounds, including those from communities most affected by climate disruption. We strive to:

  • Maintain an inclusive work culture, where we value people’s unique backgrounds and experiences

  • Provide equal opportunities for growth and leadership within our organization

  • Ensure our internal culture enables us to recruit and retain diverse staff and board members

  • Ensure our reporting, events, and other projects are inclusive of a wide range of viewpoints and experiences, and avoid harmful narratives and stereotypes

  • Collaborate with partners from varied backgrounds to broaden our reach and impact
